Very much work in progress. Recorded with a Google Pixel 8 Pro, Røde A1 audio interface and a pair of electret condenser mini capsules. The piano is an 1886 Steinway B with a rebuilt action, new hammers and voicing done by a truly genius concert technician. Thank you, Stéphane! th-cam.com/video/z9I4Kf5C3IU/w-d-xo.html Please let me know in the comments how you liked the video and audio quality ...

This is our 1887 Steinway D, preserved in its original condition, but this time with a twist. The hammers are a replica manufactured by Abel and they have been thoroughly voiced from scratch in the past few days. Our customer has a long (5 weeks) recording project and the original hammers have now been put into a thoroughly secured locker, only to be used on very special occasions on demand. As...

This monstrous Bösendorfer Imperial is in a tiny 30m² room, which it currently shares with a Steinway and a Steinway B. This is part of my quest to find a quick&dirty, simply video and audio setup. This is recorded with a Google Pixel 8 Pro and external mini stereo capsules that are plugged into a Røde AI Micro Audio Interface connected to the Pixel via USB-C. This is truly portable and I am qu...

Strictly work in progress, but also trying to show the difference between two pianos, one being this pristine 1970 Hamburg Steinway B and the other one being my own 1886 New York B, th-cam.com/video/duMc8koAlgw/w-d-xo.html which has seen a lot of work in action rebuilding, regulation and voicing. Both recordings were done with a Pixel 8 Pro, no external microphones and no post-processing. Canno...

This is strictly Work in Progress in two aspects. The one is to document the progress on practicing the Rachmaninoff etude (this is the first recording done from memory) and the progress on the future work to be done on the Steinway. It's a very nice instrument, but it needs full regulation with all its aspects and full voicing, maybe even new hammers. My technician is busy until April, but the...

A new arrival at the studio, this is a 1970 Steinway B that has only seen one owner, a piano professor and it hasn't been played or practiced on excessively. I am showing some pieces that may represent the piano in its essence, but above all in its current state. The piano needs full and thorough regulation and the hammers either need to be shaved and deeply needled for really good voicing - or...
Brahms Op. 116 No. 1 performed on a 1970 Hamburg Steinway B

I have chosen Brahms Op. 116 No.1 as a powerful piece to showcase the new arrival at the studio - 1970 Hamburg Steinway B, all original, freshly tuned (and getting a new tuning even today). The piano handles this wonderful piece with ease, even though this particular grand isn't finished in terms of regulation and voicing yet. Imagine what this beauty will sound and play like when it has been w...

Played on my out-of-tune 1886 Steinway B, 4 weeks after I fractured a bone in my left wrist due to a misstep and catching all the weight of my body with the left arm. Muscles still feel unhappy, especially thumb in the left hand, but I am glad I decided to go against doctor's advice and went for a sturdy bandage instead of four weeks of plaster cast on my left arm.

I adore Argerich, and am only sorry she hasn't made many more recordings of / appearances with this concerto, which is so much more poetic than the E-flat. I am sure if she had, she would have eventually taken a calmer view of the A-major. I confess I find this performance - technically thrilling of course - is, in many passages, rushed. Since she obviously enjoyed the rhapsodic approach (very fitting in this work) I do believe she would play it with even more poetry - enabled by breadth of approach. Still, it is wonderful to have this document, thanks for posting.
One of the magical interpretations of one of the greatest conductors of all time
I watched Frederic Rzewski perform this piece at "Wiener Konzerthaus" at November 29th, 2019 (Vienna, Austria). Thanks for this video!
What a beautiful piano and tone. Wonderful playing as well!!

Man. If I had to climb down that long flight of stairs to get on stage I would fall flat on my face.
Flawless! 👏
Good stuff my man

The theme starting at 6:30 is the single most beautiful melody I've ever heard in all of classical 20th Century repertoire. Divine work.

In seinem Element ein gottähnliches Wesen, kann nicht kopiert werden.
Carlos Kleiber was the Michael Jordan of conductors.
There is a significant delay between his directions and the orchestra playing. It's about 0.2 seconds
You'll have to blame the Concertgebouw Orkest for not properly following his conducting then.
My God, what a treasure this is.
Thanks for sharing this! At that time I was in the academie of the Berlin Phil and played in this concert (percussion-Tamburin and suspended cymbals, some snare drum doubling). Great memories!!!
Kurt Sanderling was 86 when he conducted this performance. He died one day before his 99th birthday. He obviously had a similar longevity gene like Herbert Blomstedt, who is still conducting at 97.
Or perhaps his fame and fortune allowed him to live prosperously. Either way, this is my favorite version of Shostakovich No.8 :)
Respekt!

KLingt super, was haben Sie für ein Mikrofon verwendet wenn ich fragen darf?

Second one for me.
The second one had extremely resonant bass (which I happen to like) along with the normally excellent mids and highs.
